As long as you are painting the outside of the container and not the inside, I don&#039;t see how it would matter much. It would be one thing if the paint was lead based, but there&#039;s no such thing as lead paint anymore, so I think you would be safe to paint the outside of your containers.

But if you really want to go safe and nontoxic, try something like milk paint.
